Pet Friendly Vacations

Pet Friendly Vacations

Dec 2, 2015

Rover Company knows pet friendly vacations and travel planning make sense — after all, pets are family members too! In the United States alone, over 60 million households have one or more pets. Pet owners in 15 million of those households travel with their pet, and the majority stay in pet friendly lodging. Fortunately, pet friendly hotels, condos and vacation home rentals do exist. If you will be planning pet friendly vacations, here are some tips for safe and trouble-free travel. When you make your reservation, double-check that pets are allowed. An important advantage of reserving online is that you can see in writing whether or not pets are permitted and any restrictions. Online, you can print out your reservation receipt that includes the “pets allowed” information. Verbal reservations leave more room for misunderstanding and miscommunication. If reserving by telephone, ask the reservation person to mail you a confirmation receipt that includes the “pets allowed” information. Is your pet an experienced traveler? If not, you should begin getting your pet more accustomed to traveling so that pet friendly vacations won’t be something new. Begin by making your car a fun place for your pet. Get in the car with them, play with them, give them a treat — have them enjoy being there with you. Then take a short drive with them. Gradually increase the length of time and distance that you drive with them. Before making a long trip with your pet, the idea is to have them comfortable with being in the car for extended periods of time. Remember that securing your pet while traveling in the car is crucial for their safety and yours. Consider purchasing a dog safety harness for your pet to use while traveling in the car. If you have a station wagon or SUV, you can purchase a vehicle barrier that keeps your pet confined to the rear area. They are usually sold at pet stores or are available online. Roverpet believes pet friendly vacations planning should include taking steps to ensure your pet can be found if it accidentally becomes lost while on vacation. Be sure that your pet has an identification tag and wears it...

Dont go to Sandals Barbados.yet!

Dont go to Sandals Barbados.yet!

Nov 17, 2015

I just returned from my destination weddings course at Sandals Barbados.  I would advise you to wait awhile before visiting. Why do I say that? They are working on their beach to make it more swimmable and calm. To do this, they are building a breakwater, utilizing large, noisy backhoes and trucks. There is currently a kelp problem in Barbados that washes up huge amount of seaweed onto the beaches. Also, as it decomposes it has a pretty stinky smell. They are about to begin a large addition to the northeast of the property, which will add two new buildings of rooms. It’s going to have a pool in the skyway connecting one building to another, which will be great when it’s complete. Once these things are completed and/or resolved, it is going to be great. The setting is beautiful and the resort has a very modern, open and sleek look.  They have some unique live entertainment options, like a saxophonist who plays near the suites at dusk for some nice ambiance.  The restaurants and service is excellent.  The staff is very, very friendly. Sandals Barbados will be an ideal resort for those couples who like to get out and explore the island on their own.  There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance.  And, there is more infrastructure in Barbados than almost any other Caribbean island, so renting a car or hiring a drivers for the day would be a lot of fun to go see some of the other beautiful beaches, the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, Hunte’s Gardens, St. Nicholas Abbey or Harrison’s Cave. Tip:  You’ll see lots of the Barbados Green Monkeys at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, as well as colorful birds, various reptiles and some non-native animals.  Be sure to be there by 2 PM, which is feeding time for the Green Monkeys, so they are extremely active. Things like this are why it’s extremely important to utilize the services of a travel consultant that specializes in romantic vacations for couples; someone who’s been there.  I’ve been to all 15 Sandals resorts over the last few years and can help turn your romantic vacation or honeymoon from “I didn’t know...

Travel Tip Tuesday: Charge Your Phone Before You Fly

Travel Tip Tuesday: Charge Your Phone Before You Fly

Nov 1, 2015

It has become standard practice to bring your cell phone with you on international trips – there are selfies you need to take, music to listen to on the long flight, and travel apps you can use to organize your trip, right? Well if you haven’t heard the news,  The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced on Sunday that they will begin to ban battery-dead cell phones on certain international flights back to the United States.   That means, if you plan on returning home and your cell phone battery is dead (and you can’t prove that it can turn on), the TSA can confiscate your phone.  So charge your phone before you fly! How can you prevent this from happening? For starters, you can charge your device prior to getting to the airport. If all your electronics are fully charged, you won’t have any problems showing TSA that your device is working properly if you are questioned about it. Having fully charged electronics also helps when you are at an airport and your fellow passengers have hogged all of the available electrical outlets – yes, even in the ones in the bathroom! I’ve been sightseeing all day! My battery is on 10% – I didn’t get a chance to charge! We know that there will be times that you won’t have a chance to fully charge your device before you get to the airport.  Maybe you’ve been sightseeing prior to your flight home and you’ve been snapping pics and making phone calls.  It makes sense to bring your cell phone charger in your carry-on so if you need to add some juice, you can try your luck at finding an outlet.  Just make sure if you’re at an international airport, that you have a travel adapter (most cell phone chargers have built-in voltage converters, so just make sure your plug fits into the international outlet!) What if you can’t find an outlet at the airport? If you’re traveling with multiple devices, a travel hack to get some juice back in your phone is to plug in your USB charger to your laptop. If you fully charge a device that you know you won’t be using until...

UVC signs record 13 new AMResorts deals in 2015

Aug 21, 2015

Breathless Resorts & Spas Unlimited Vacation Club (UVC) by AMResorts is continuing its aggressive growth in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America with four new resorts deals in the region. AMResorts has announced 13 new resort management deals so far this year, more than double the amount signed in 2014, marking a new record for the company. The developments have made the UVC one of the fastest-growing luxury vacation clubs in North America. The opening of Breathless Montego Bay Resort & Spa will mark the debut of UVC’s adults-only Breathless Resorts & Spas brand in Jamaica and double the vacation club’s resort footprint on the island. The expansion is in response to consumer demand, as visitor arrivals to Jamaica have increased by more than 45 percent in the last decade. Mexico resorts With the addition of Breathless Playa del Carmen Resort & Spa, Dreams Villas Playa del Carmen and Sunscape Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, UVC will have 30 open resorts in Mexico by the end of 2017, proving this market is extremely attractive to both travelers and hotel developers. As Playa del Carmen is considered one of Mexico’s fastest growing cities, UVC will expand into this region with Breathless Playa del Carmen and Dreams Villas Playa del Carmen. Sunscape Puerto Vallarta will be UVC’s fourth property in another world-class beach destination, Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Breathless Montego Bay Resort & Spa, scheduled to open in late 2016, will feature 150 rooms and suites offering privileged views of the Caribbean Sea and access to the longest stretch of private white-sand beach in this popular vacation destination. The resort, located within a 15-minute drive of Sangster International Airport, will be situated next to sister properties Secrets St. James Montego Bay and Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay, as well as Sunscape Montego Bay Jamaica, which will officially rebrand as a Sunscape Resorts & Spas property on 23 December 2015.
